Protect Anza Borrego from the SDGE Sunrise Powerlink Project

Urgent Message from POC (Protect Our Communities.org)

1. As many of you know, the draft EIR/EIS has been distributed. We were pleased that the draft identifies several alternatives that are environmentally superior to the proposed project. Plus, cognizant of the reliability risks posed by fires in Southern California, the study devotes over 300 pages to the fire risks posed to both the proposed and potential alternative routes.

The report indicates that the SDG&E's Sunrise Powerlink would impact the environment in 50 ways that cannot be mitigated. Building and maintaining the transmission line would exacerbate climate change, disturb and possibly kill populations of the endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep and increase the probability of wildfires starting beneath the massive span.

While many of our points have been included in the document, the fight is no won yet. Remember this report is not binding, it solely evaluates the project against other options. We strongly suggest that each of you request the Executive Summary and the DVD of the full report by emailing sunrise@aspeneg.com . Give them you address and they will mail it to you.

The report can also be viewed on line at www.cpuc.ca.gov/Environment/info/aspen/sunrise/sunrise.htm

The Ramona Sentinel wrote an excellent article regarding our Alliance and its fight against the Sunrise Powerlink. Many thanks to Diane Conklin for working with the paper and for her tireless efforts as an intervenor in the CUPC process. Click on the link to read the article in its entirety.
