“Vallecito
Days” Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (east of San Diego
via Highways 78 and 79) This three-day annual event
is held in conjunction with San Diego County Parks and
Ramona Trails Association. It includes Overland Mail
reenactment, ride as a loop out from the County Park stage
station and back. The ranch house will be decorated in
period artifacts. There will also be living history events.
Come experience the stage station and life in the West as
it was in 1858. There will be activities for all to enjoy
for the day or the weekend. Tour the original sod house that
served as a stage station and rest stop for countless
travelers on their way West. There will be several
historical groups and displays, both in the stage station
and around the campground. On Saturday, see the riders come
into the Vallecito station just as they would have more than
150 years ago. Sponsored by the Ramona Trails Association,
California State Parks, Backcountry Horsemen, and
San Diego County Parks and Recreation. Fore more

“Archeology
of Anza-Borrego” Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (on the
eastern side of San Diego County, with portions extending
east into Imperial County and north into Riverside County -
it is about a two-hour drive from San Diego, Riverside, and
Palm Springs) Join professional archeologists and learn how
prehistoric peoples managed to make a living from the land.
