A Big Band theme has been chosen for the dinner
dance and auctions accompanying Desert Home Care’s sixth annual golf
tournament Saturday, March 14.
Live music from the 1940s swing era will set the
beat for after-dinner dancing on the floor of the RoadRunner Clubhouse,
according to Stuart and Bonnie Resor, who are coordinating dinner,
auction and dance preparations.
“Guys can dress for the era in pinstriped suits
and military uniforms,” Bonnie Resor suggested, noting that costumes are
optional. “Women can play their part in full-length dresses, gloves and
small hats with veils.” She said the décor for the evening will consist
of posters of dance bands and dancers, balloons and, possibly, a disco
ball in the center of the dance floor.
Afternoon and evening activities will begin about
4:30 p.m. March 12 with an open bar, band music, appetizers and a silent
auction.
Dinner will be served about 5:30 p.m., followed by
a live auction with Tony Mitchell De Zago, a longtime seasonal resident
of the RoadRunner Club, putting at least
25 major items on the auction block.
“Bidders will have an opportunity to buy fabulous
trips to five-star resorts and top-of-the-line jewelry, art, golf
equipment and other items,” Resor said. To donate items, call the Resors
at (760) 525-0076 or e-mail them at
stuartresor@starband.net .
Golfers will play in a four-person scramble format
at both the RoadRunner Club and The Springs at Borrego, according to
Ross Henry, golf chairman of the Desert Home Care fundraising committee.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot behind the
clubhouse, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., on the 18-hole, par-54
course at the RoadRunner Club.
Golfers will play the 9-hole, par-36 course at The
Springs twice from two sets of tees beginning with a shotgun start at 9
a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the parking lot.
Cost for golf and the evening dinner is $100, of
which $70 is tax-deductible. Donation for the dinner and dance, without
golf, is $50.
Checks can be sent to Desert Home Care, PO Box 1175,
Borrego Springs 92004.
Ross said hole sponsorships are available at $250
for a full hole and $350 for deluxe sponsorships and can be arranged by
calling him at 760-767-4562.
Proceeds from the day-long event are earmarked for
Desert Home Care staff training as well as equipment at the new
assisted-living facility.
